Spring Flood

Long overdue blog catch-up.  I have been painting, but neglected the blogging, instead using Instagram (link to to the side) to post photos.  Sometimes it feels that to keep up with all the various social media sites takes too much time from painting.  I have promised myself to get back to the blog this year and post more often.  I have recently been asked on more than one occasion about where to look at my paintings so realized I need to get posting! 

Christina Creek flowing out of Christina Lake.  This was a beautiful clear day with the sky reflecting in the waters of the flooded creek.   I took the reference photo and used that for this painting done last summer.

This weather beaten tree manages to grow on the edge on the edge of the rocks.  Amazing how these old trees hang on to life.
New Year's Day we usually take a walk in Ruckle  Provincial Park on Salt Spring Island, B.C. as do many others. It seems to be a tradition.   There are many trails and one year we walked along the shore intending to get to Yeo Point.  Well it  was a longer hike than we realized  so  that day we turned inland at King's Cove and took the trail back through the forest around the outside of the dedicated farmland that is part of the park.    Our walk took us from point 1 on the map, to point 3, then 5, 8, 9, 10 and back down the road to the parking area at point 1.

Summer Clouds

A painting  from a photo  taken late on a hot summer's day at Christina Lake.  The lovely high thunder clouds were floating around like heaps of cotton candy.  

The internet has been down for two days due to tree trimmers cutting the main line on a section of road where the trees have been left to grow too large to be safe for the cutters and the lines.  With the winter weather Salt Spring Island has been subject to this year there have been many power outages.  The power and telephone lines come down due to falling trees or branches heavy with snow cracking and falling.  Many people like the closeness of the tree lined roads but safety is important too.
