Once again I used back, white and Van Dyke brown for my pigments.   Van Dyke brown is a warm brown that works well to give a bit of colour to the portraits.  It has an interesting grainy texture.  At first I thought it was the old tube I had, then purchased a new one and found it the same.

  1. I think monochrome makes for a great portrait... really effective and kind of gives it a 'timeless' quality. I rarely paint portraits, but the few I have were all monochrome.
